The Tallis

For those with a particular design, color, or idea in mind, we offer our signature custom-made tallit. Visit our gallery to see samples of our custom work, then give us a call to discuss how we can create something especially for you. [then the users should be sent through the different steps of choosing a fiber, etc.)

The Lord said to Moses: Speak to the Israelites and instruct them to make for themselves fringes; let them attach a cord of blue to the fringe at each corner. That shall be your fringe; look at it and recall all the commandments of the Lord and observe them, so that you do not follow your heart and eyes in your lustful urge. Thus you shall be reminded to observe all My commandments and to be holy to your God. I, the Lord, am your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt to be your God: I, the Lord your God. [Numbers 15:37-41]

Design your Own!!!!

Work with our weavers to design a tallis that fits with your personal and religious traditions. See our gallery for ideas.

Step 1: Choose a fiber

We generally suggest 100% silk (raw or reeled), a wool-silk blend, 100% wool, cotton, or chenille. (See fibers page for
a comparison). The only religious requirement is no mixing of animal and vegetable fibers (so no cotton-wool blends,
for example). We can also weave tallises out of other fibers upon request.

Step 2: Choose colors

Except for the tzitzit (corner fringes) which by tradition are white, we can weave the tallis in whatever color you like. Many people prefer a cream color as the base for the tallis, accented with colored and silver stripes. But we also welcome nontraditional colors and designs, such as black with silver and purple stripes. The choice is yours. See our colors for ideas. Other colors may be available upon
request (at no extra charge).

Step 3: Choose a size

We typically weave tallises to be approximately 17-20 inches wide and 70 inches long. Upon request, we can weave wider tallises up to 60 inches wide and as long as you like. We can also weave different shapes, if that is
what you prefer.

Step 4: Choose an atarah

The atarah (neckband) helps the wearer locate the middle of the tallis. Atarahs can pick up on the stripe pattern of the tallis. Or, they can be embroidered with a special date or name. Or, we can attach your own atarah or piece of textile that has a special meaning for you. Let us know what suits you best.

Step 5: Consider adding a tallis bag or a yarmulka (kippah/kippot)

Tallis bags and yarmulkas can be coordinated in color and design with the tallis. We make two kinds of yarmulkas: the traditional dome shape and the more crown-style Bokharan type. Also check out our hand crocheted kippot here.

PRICES

Prices are determined primarily by fiber and size (other fibers and sizes possible). Please email at ibualissa@verizon.netto discuss your tallit.
